The 2012 harvest begins :)

This morning at 6:30 AM we began the first harvest of our 2012 grapes.

The joy of estate growing 100% of our own grapes as a boutique vineyard and winery is that we do not have to pick everything at once. For us, picking each block and each varietal only on the exact day they are ready is key to taking perfect grapes and making the very best in fine wines.

The Syrah vines in block #1 were again the winners in the FTP (First To Pick) contest and we are very excited about the flavor, intensity and overall characteristics the Syrah grapes displayed. We kept the grapes cold in a refrigerated truck while we picked and then as we do every year they were crushed within 3 hours of coming out of our vineyard.

The Cabernet Franc looks to be the next fruit we wil harvest on Friday and then the Cab and Petit Verdot will follow in about a week.
